Getting Closer to Sci-Fi?

Your mind will be blown:

Some of the most basic topics discussed in this video are things you will cover in Physics II: Electricity and Magnetism. The whole idea behind magnets and magnetic fields will seem clearer to you after you take it.

The only thing that went through my mind was Luke Skywalker traveling with his Landspeeder through Tatooine (for any Star Wars nerds out there). Anything is possible if you can think of it. Star Wars may soon become a reality. I call dibs on the pink lightsaber.

Any wild ideas that you guys would like to share?

  1. Peter,

When I watched the video, I was thinking flying cars and hoverboards from the movie, Back to the future part II. Pretty neat stuff. Based on the video, do you think it is possible to see this "quantum locking" knowledge applied to cars, trucks, or trains in the immediate future? I think this knowledge can be used to develop new innovative means of transportation.

  2. That's amazing! The prospect of hovercrafts and flying cars immediately made me envision a Blade Runner-esque futuristic city scene.
Of course, the nifty landspeeder came to mind, but I'd prefer a speeder bike.
So if this were applied to transportation, would it actually be energy efficient?

  3. I have seen something very similar to this before! I thinks its crazy that physics has the ability to do this! My 2 year old daughter even watched this clip with me and thought it was funny! :) The other time that I have watched this, it was a small circular object as well. Do you know if they have been able to perform this experiment with larger objects?

  4. This makes think of the earth rotating on it's axis, and it also makes me think of a planet or moons orbiting their prospective stars or planet. Is it possible these forces work on a planetary scale?

  5. That was pretty amazing to watch. Those physicists must be highly advanced in their field to demonstrate it. What would be the applications of quantum locking?

  6. This was an amazing video. I was thinking of flying cars as well.

  7. First of all, star wars already happened, it is not a possibility for the future, lol. It says at the beginning of every episode, "A long time ago in a galaxy far away...", but i love that you can relate what we are learning to star wars. Second, reaslly awesome video. I didn't know that magnets could lock like that.

  9. This may have been the coolest thing I have seen all week!! That was awesome.

  10. That was very interesting. Its funny to think about how much we know about gravity and what it does however, we still know so little about the depths that it can actually go.

  11. Great video. Maybe we will see flying cars in the future. Maybe we will live like the Jetsons

Everyone keeps thinking about flying cars, which would be awesome, but I want to see the vacuum chambers that transport you place to place like in Futurama.

  13. When I saw that I just kept thinking of hovercrafts/ flying cars. I also was thinking about the countless attempts I have seen of teenagers trying to create hovercrafts.

  14. Just saw the "Back to the Future" comment. I see that too. The whole idea of hovering skateboards and cars (time travel capable is a push but still a fun thought)

  15. Also, Star Trek transportation "Beam me up Scotty". Thats interesting to think about but seems to be dangerous and really illogical (not possible even in the future)
